Brownie Fail.

Usually I enjoy making food, mostly because of what comes after it (EATING!!). I like to pick stuff out at the grocery store to  mix together and hope that everything will eventually end up tasting deliciously like something I will enjoy putting in my stomach. Tuesday I picked up some brownie mix and a package of Oreos at the store, and thought it would be a great idea to make brownies with Oreo pieces in them.

It probably would have been a great idea; but I am not very good at reading directions. There were literally three steps listed on the package and I think I read one of them. The last one, which told me how hot to heat the oven. I did that right. However, I didn't put them in the right size pan, and I didn't measure out the oil or water that I put in them. I actually added some water because I knew the pan was too small and deep (it was a hot dish pan) for brownies and adding water makes them less brownie-like and more cake-ish, and I was afraid the Oreos would do weird things to the batter.

I cooked them long enough. At least, I think I did... I kinda lost track of time, but I did check them to make sure they were solidifying appropriately. They were. So theoretically, they were going to be delicious. They even looked delicious when they came out of the oven.

However, they have the texture of water-filled sponges and are not-so pleasant to eat, even when soaked in butter brickle ice cream. God, I love butter brickle ice cream. It's like every childhood butterscotch dessert got stuffed into the amazingness that is ice cream. It's the flavor that makes me pretend my stomach doesn't hate dairy.

I'm going to go to bed. But tomorrow, I'll stick what's left of the Brownie Disaster of 2012 in the oven again until it's crunchy, and then use it as a topping for my ice cream. Or maybe I'll just throw it. In any case, lesson learned; I will probably just make other people bake things for me from now on.

Blue thought for today: Blue must secretly be everyone's favorite color; think of the percentage of pants that are blue!

Track of the day: Up All Night by Alex Clare (because I am currently still awake and it's 1:27, and I wake up at 6...)
